NUS High School Research Congress

The assigned tasks are:
1. Reflect on the issue of Cancer
The focus on the talk was treating Cancer, specifically Head and Neck cancer. Cancer is a growingly important issue and concern, as more and more people, in Singapore as well as other countries, suffer from it, this talk shows the factors affecting survival and other medical ways to increase the chances of survival. Factors affecting survival includes the stage of disease (The lower the stage, the higher the chance of surviving) and extra-capsular spread (Without it, the chances of surviving is higher). Medical therapies and treatments available are Photodynamic Therapy (Though it has its own disadvantages such as possibly incomplete elimination of cancer cells, leading to a tumour regrowth), Angiogenesis, and the usual Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy.
The current factors affecting survival is based on luck (Whether the patient discovers the cancer at the early/late stage), and therapies currently used has its disadvantages. Thus, Cancer is a dangerous issue where it can affect the lives of many people.
2. Presentations during the Talk
(e) Write a short reflection on the talk by NUSHigh students
(f) Pay attention to 3 poster presentations after the talk
(g) Write a short reflection on the poster presentations after the talk
Attach photographs if you have taken any into your blog as well.
